Suzanne Kosiba
Marriage & Family Therapy practicum student
Farmington Hills & Virtual
My road to the mental health field has been a long and winding one. I achieved my undergraduate degree in Actuarial Mathematics and my master’s in accounting. I attained my CPA license and worked in the accounting industry for a while. When my husband and I had children, I took a leave of absence from the accounting field and became a full-time stay-at-home mom for a few years.
During my time at home and my transition back to the (monetarily) paid work force thereafter, I began to realize how important people and functional relationships are in family, work, and community. I began looking into studying psychology and the interconnectedness of us all. I decided to pursue a degree in marriage and family therapy (MFT).
I am currently a master’s student in MFT at Capella University. I am passionate about helping individuals, couples, and families navigate life's challenges and build deeper connections.
My Therapeutic Approach
I view therapy through a systemic lens, which means I believe that no one exists in isolation. Our lives, identities, and choices are constantly shaped by external factors, including:
Family dynamics and generational patterns
Societal and cultural expectations
Institutional environments
Internal self-talk and personal beliefs
Understanding how these pieces interact within the relational system of life—where one action always impacts another—is key to healing. It helps us understand our relationships with ourselves and others, as well as our true potential.
Theories I Utilize
While I am trained in a variety of systemic frameworks, I am most drawn to:
Narrative Therapy: Helping you rewrite the stories that hold you back.
Solution-Focused Therapy: Concentrating on your strengths and future goals.
Emotion-Focused Therapy: Exploring and processing deep emotions to create safety.
Because every person, relationship, and situation is completely unique, I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. I adapt my communication and techniques to match what you need in the current moment.
My Philosophy
To me, people are the most valuable resource in our world. Life is a continuous journey of growth, development, and a search for peace and love.
Everyone navigates their own difficult seasons in life. Because of these experiences, I deeply understand the courage it takes to seek help. I consider it a true honor to walk alongside you on your journey, offering insight, compassion, and support to make the path forward brighter.
My Free Time
In my free time I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, hiking, and visiting new places - especially National and State Parks, botanical gardens and quaint little towns.

I love helping people see the absolute best in themselves. I am deeply passionate about guiding clients to connect with their inner resilience and to learn how to truly love who they are. Ultimately, my goal is to help individuals understand, embrace, and build a meaningful hope for their future.

I believe people are the world's greatest resource; without human connection and purpose, everything else sits dormant. My role is to help individuals activate their inner strength and become the best versions of themselves. Life is a continuous journey of development where we seek peace and love, while lifting one another up. Knowing every person navigates their own difficult seasons, I have seen firsthand the courage it takes and how heavy the path can be. Walking alongside others through their challenging chapters, to offer support and compassion, is a true honor

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? ... Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory … that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.” – Marianne Williamson, A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles 1992
