Shelby DeShetler, MA, CCC-SLP
Speech-Language Pathologist
Ann Arbor & Virtual
Hello, I’m Shelby, a pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist with a Master of Arts in Speech-Language Pathology from The University of Toledo. I have been practicing outpatient pediatric care for the duration of my career, and it truly is my passion and brings me so much joy. I am eager for the opportunity to work with you and help meet the goals of your family and child.
I have experience working with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-aged children who present with a wide variety of communication and feeding challenges. These areas include challenges related to autism, gestalt language processing, childhood apraxia of speech, motor speech disorders, speech sound disorders, use of augmentative and alternative communication systems (AAC), genetic differences, stuttering/fluency, and oral motor and feeding challenges.
I provide neurodiversity-affirming, play-based treatment that is tailored to meet the needs of each individual child and their families. My goal is to create authentic connections with each client and help families find practical ways to improve communication, safety, and overall quality of life while at home, in school, and around the community. I believe it is of utmost importance that a client feels safe and heard throughout their session, and I prioritize finding ways to meet their goals while exploring topics and activities that they love. I incorporate a multi-sensory approach to treatment and utilize the multi-disciplinary team that is available at Mala to further improve care across disciplines. I enjoy coaching parents and caregivers on ways to support communication, and transfer learned skills into everyday life.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our dog, family, and friends. In the summer we love traveling to our family cabin at Silver Lake Sand Dunes, where we can be found cruising the dunes, going to our favorite restaurants, and enjoying the beach. I’m a big sports fan and love watching college or professional Michigan sports teams!
