Clinical Social Worker

Plymouth & Virtual

Hello, my name is Philip!

As a counselor, I strive to create safe and supportive space where clients feel truly seen and heard. My approach is friendly, compassionate, and non-judgmental. My work is grounded in the belief that healing and growth happen through genuine connection and understanding. I engage my clients with range of methods and modalities to meet each of their unique needs. I incorporate Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to assist clients to identify and shift unhelpful thought patterns, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to help clients develop skills in emotional regulation and mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help client develop psychological flexibility, Motivational Interviewing (MI) to explore self-motivated and -directed change, and a variety of grounding techniques. These different approaches enable me to tailor sessions to each client’s unique goals.

My experience in counseling at Eastern Michigan University’s Athletic Department has been instrumental in shaping my ability to support clients from various backgrounds. Working with student-athletes in high-pressure environments has provided me with unique insight into the mental and emotional challenges individuals face when striving to perform at their best. This experience has honed my skills in addressing. Range os issues — from stress management and self-esteem to overcoming setbacks and building resilience. By assisting individuals in navigating these pressures, I have been able to cultivate a compassionate, goal-oriented, trauma-informed therapeutic environment where people can explore their strengths, identify their challenges, and work toward the goals they have set for themselves. This experience informs my approach to therapy, empowering clients to move forward with confidence and clarity, no matter the obstacles they face.

In our work together, I pay close attention to the broader social and cultural factors that shape our own lives. These factors include race, gender, sexuality, and family dynamics and the impact that they have on our own individual experiences. By considering these intersections of life, I aim to support clients in navigating both personal challenges and the systemic influences that may affect their well-being.

Whether you are seeking support for specific concerns or simply looking to explore your own inner world, I am here to walk alongside you with warmth, respect, and curiosity.
