Kayla Szatkiewicz, LMSW

Clinical Social Worker

Ann Arbor, & Online

Hello My name is Kayla Szatkiewicz, and I am a trauma informed psychotherapist here at Mala Ann Arbor! I have built my career working with young people from five to nineteen, and loved every minute of it! I am committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where every client feels heard, valued, and empowered.

My experience includes working with youth in school settings, community mental health programs, juvenile justice systems, and outpatient settings. I have helped clients navigate anxiety, depression, substance use issues, ADHD, trauma, family changes, peer difficulties, and identity development.  I use evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT),  play therapy techniques, mindfulness, and strengths-based approaches to help young clients build coping skills, resilience, and confidence. I am also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) with both children and adults.  I believe in working collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and other professionals to ensure consistent support across all areas of a child’s life. My goal is to help clients grow into emotionally healthy individuals who feel confident in themselves and connected to others.

Get to know Kayla

  • I have been lucky enough to have some amazing therapists in my life, and I always knew I wanted to work with young people, and once I found social work it spoke to me and has allowed me to show up and support young people in powerful ways.

  • There’s something incredibly moving about witnessing another person’s truth! I find deep meaning in building connections and exploring someone’s inner world—their fears, challenges, and lived experiences. Being trusted with someone’s story is a profound honor!

  • What a session feels like is going to differ from client to client, however the energy I bring in will always be warmth, excitement, understanding and non-judgmental!

  • The adults around also don't know what they are doing, so let's figure it out together!

  • You should always have a dog!

  • Animals, dogs, food,  authenticy, gender affirming care, and social justice!
