Janina Sherman, BSN, RN, PMHNP-S

Janina Sherman is a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner student with more than 20 years of healthcare experience and a strong commitment to compassionate, patient-centered mental health care. She began her healthcare career as a Medical Assistant in 2004, became a Licensed Practical Nurse in 2012, and earned her Registered Nurse credential in 2022.

Throughout her healthcare career, Janina has gained experience caring for diverse patient populations across a variety of clinical settings. She currently works as a Registered Nurse at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs on a medical-surgical unit and has previously worked within the mental health department. These experiences have strengthened her ability to care for individuals with complex medical and psychiatric needs while reinforcing the importance of treating each patient with dignity, empathy, and respect.

Janina is currently pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing Practice at Walden University, with an anticipated graduation date in late 2027. As a PMHNP student, she looks forward to expanding her knowledge and clinical skills in psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, psychotherapy, and psychopharmacologic management while providing evidence-based and culturally responsive care across the lifespan.

Janina is passionate about reducing the stigma surrounding mental illness, improving access to quality behavioral healthcare, and creating a therapeutic environment in which individuals and families feel safe, heard, respected, and empowered. Her professional values align closely with Mala Child and Family Institute’s emphasis on safety, connection, authenticity, evidence-based practice, teamwork, accountability, and integrity.
