Amanda Willen

Social Work Practicum Student

Ann Arbor & Virtual‍

Hello, my name is Amanda! I am currently a Master of Social Work student at the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor, where I am specializing in Children, Youth, and Families. As a practicum student at Mala Child & Family Institute, I am grateful for the opportunity to learn and grow as a developing clinician while providing support to children, adolescents, and families.

I have worked with children and adolescents with a range of abilities, identities, and experiences in school and camp settings. Through these experiences, I discovered my passion for providing care centered around each individual’s unique needs and meeting people where they are. My work with children and youth has been guided by a desire to support their social and emotional development, executive functioning, self-regulation, and day-to-day needs, while recognizing and learning from each individual's strengths, experiences, and perspectives.

In my work with clients, I strive to create a warm, safe, and nonjudgmental space where individuals feel seen, heard, and valued. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process, and I seek to work alongside clients and families to develop care that reflects their individual needs, strengths, identities, and goals. I am committed to fostering an inclusive environment where individuals and families of all identities and abilities feel welcomed and supported.

I feel incredibly fortunate to continue learning through my practicum experience at Mala Child & Family Institute as I pursue my MSW at the University of Michigan School of Social Work. Outside of my work and studies, you can find me practicing yoga, spending time outdoors, journaling, and exploring new shops and restaurants throughout Ann Arbor with family and friends. I look forward to the opportunity to build meaningful relationships with clients and support them as they navigate their own experiences, challenges, and growth!
